I gave up cleaning my car a year or so ago, and resorted to a local hand wash and hoover outfit - who do a very good job. So this Black and Decker Dustbuster is a little superfluous to my requirements.

Nonetheless, I found it handy for a little intermediary hoovering after a countryside stroll and very easy to operate. Therefore it has a permanent place in the car boot.

Also, might make a nice stocking filler for a fastidious car owner.....

The blurb says:

“The PV1205B operates a cyclonic action for collecting dust, which is gathered in a 350ml dirt bin. Its Easy Empty system also means you don’t have to get your hands dirty emptying it. There’s also a wheel on the side of the Dustbuster which you can use to agitate and clean the filter, so there’s less clogging.”

FACT – Almost every girl (and a fair few fellas these days) has a pair of curling tongs or straightners. I don’t know about you but I’ve often picked the blinking things up only to scold my hand and find myself repeating words that really aren’t suitable for this website!

So you can imagine my glee when I found out about this little invention by Gripeze. It’s basically a non slip mat that you place them on after use, which also indicates when the things are hot by changing colour… no more blisters, holes in the carpet or swearing! They also make very useful carry cases for them.

The mats won’t burn either as it can take products that are up to 250°C. Another advantage is that they are under £10 so make for a fun stocking filler.

Ok, I have to admit to being very skeptical about these Cordless Scissors - a new product from Black and Decker......

image

What would I use it for, and just how robust would it be? Could it cope with cardboard and other similar materials or would it barely manage cutting into tissue paper?

Well, as it happened I received delivery of a flat pack bed a few days ago - which you can imagine arrived in one big cardboard box. So without thinking, I started tearing into the box so that I could pack it into one of the councils flimsy plastic recycling bags, that always split… It proved more difficult than I anticipated and ended up tearing a gash in my hand from an industrial sized staple !!!

So then my brain engaged and I started using the Cordless Scissors. To my surprise they scythed through the cardboard like a hot knife through butter - utterly brilliant. There’s not much more to say about this product other than it has a lock switch for safety, and is rechargeable - that’s it. A dead simple device that is going to make my post Christmas box dismantling a whole lot easier.

The Swinxs is a rather neat little gadget/toy/console designed by Bugaboo founder, Eduard Zanen. Perfect for the 8 – 12 year old, the Swinxs blends traditional games with the latest technology, and here’s how…

Swinxs can talk, explain games, recognise players and even referee! Each player has their own coloured wristband with a microchip that communicates with Swinxs.  10 games are already loaded and more can be downloaded free from the website, alongside music and quizzes.

Some of the pre-loaded games include tag, musical chairs and hide and seek and make a welcome break from video game consoles as they encourage a little more physical exercise. You can have up to 10 players and play it just about anywhere!

Here’s an novel gift idea for business traveler – a mouse designed to work in the air or on a flat surface like a desktop. Developed by the leader in motion-sensing technology, the Gyration Air Mouse comes with something called MotionSense™.

“So what MotionSense™” I hear you say… well it basically means you can use the mouse in the air! That’s right you read that correctly, very handy for the home office where you are limited for space or perhaps even travelling around and you get fed up with using that silly touch pad on your laptop that goes the other way you want it to (well it does on mine anyway!).
