When I received a Leap Frog Tag Reader in the post, I must admit to being a little skeptical. Surely my kids would not be able to work it out? Surely they would get bored of it quickly? Surely it would have negligible educational value?
Well, I was pleasantly surprised on all these points. In fact I can’t speak highly enough of it.

The YouDoo Doggy doll is an interesting concept that is a derivative of the YouDoo Doll that appeared on BBC’s Dragons Den.
The concept is simple. You get a blank canvas doggy doll that you can customise yourself. Not a bad idea, and one that will keep the kids busy for a few hours.
The Youdoo Doggy comes with an iron-on sheet, collar and T-shirt. You can print off an image of your own dog or find a particularly cute pooch picture that can be printed onto the iron-on sheet and attach it to YouDoo Dog’s head. The YouDoo Dog is entirely customisable with pens and paints.
Interestingly, the YouDoo Dog is likely to be the first in a YouDoo Pets series with cats mentioned as the next possible YouDoo.

Matthew Williamson is a name synonymous to the fashion industry. Adored by fashionistas all over the world, this award winning designer has recently celebrated his 10th year in business. Williamson’s Spring/Summer collection was awash with Native-American embroidery, African tribal prints, Indian Saris and Japanese kimono’s. Collectively known as ‘global fashion gypsy’. Williamson himself took inspiration from around the world and different cultures to create the key pieces for his Spring/Summer 08 collection. This look has since been filtering into the High St as a key trend for Summer, with a selection of global styles from around the world.
Bang on trend as usual, Momiji introduces its limited edition range designed by award winning graphic designer Nina Zimmermann ‘The Itchy Feet Collection’, which lead with this trend.
Last year they dipped into the incredibly cool, kawaii Japanese manga and harajuku market with the hugely successful Jo Zhou collection and this year, like so many designers showed us at the Spring/Summer shows it was global fashion trends that sparked inspiration.
The Nina Zimmermann range is available now from John Lewis priced £11.95 per doll.
Although Nintendo DS can keep kids occupied for hours on long journeys we recently had some great success with some simple board games and toys. It’s not always about modern technology! Sometimes the old ways work just as well.
Anyway, it’s with this in mind that I thought Playmobil Carry Cases could work just fine for the kiddy’s holiday entertainment.
I haven’t seen my kids play with these, but when I showed them some images and told them what they were - the Nintendo Ds was briefly put to one side an achievement in itself.
The new Carrying Cases include the Knight, Shopper, Farmer and Fireman ranges - something for both the boys and the girls!

The concept of a toy controlled by a digital watch remote control would have really got me very excited as a child. At the very least I would have been scribbling a letter to Santa ASAP.
Come September Wesco will be offering such a device - named the Whizz Watch
Using a Whizz Watch mini remote control - characters can be raced around the kitchen table, desk or floor, controlled by a matching LCD watch. Appealing to sci-fi fans and gadget lovers, the watches feature movie favourite R2D2 from Star Wars and a dreaded Dalek from Dr Who.
