Currently the cheapest mp3 player in the market, the Archos 15b vision is incredible value. A great first MP3 player for a child or one for the keen runner perhaps, this little (smaller than a credit card) bundle of joy offers 20 hours of playback (4GB – 8GB of storage), a set of headphones, recording facility and a graphic equalizer. For £30 you simply can’t argue with that!
We recently got our hands on one to trial and to be honest, can’t find fault when you consider the price of it. If you wanted to be picky you could say it’s quite ‘plastic’ feeling, but as I mentioned above, the quality is more than adequate when considering price.
If you want to charge it, you simply plug it into your PC/laptop’s USB port and give it a few hours, job done. The battery lasts for ages, even with my son listening to music and looking at photos on it for ages.
So, to summarise – fantastic product at a very tempting price point, a great introduction to personal music for a child.

The House of Marley is a high-end producer of Bob Marley inspired musical equipment, based in the USA. The brand aims to take all of Marley’s musical roots and then channel this into superior quality headphones, docks and audio systems. Each range of headphones and audio systems, is designed with a plethora of vivid colours, and pulls them together with a rustic Jamaican twist. With prices ranging from £19.99 to £249.99, there really is something for everyone.
The House of Marley also donate a small portion to the www.1love.org cause which aims to give impoverished children the chance to learn how to play a musical instrument.
I tried out the mid-range Exodus On-Ear Headphones which have an SRP of £99.99.
The Exodus headphones, much like the rest of the House of Marley range, are made from eco-friendly materials, such as: FSC birch wood, recycled plastic and other sustainable materials. As you can see below, they are a rather stylish and unique looking bit of kit.
They also come complete with an in-cable Mic and Controller; this means you can immediately dim volume and alter it too!
Verdict
Build: The headphones are solidly built and their construction seems to be of very high quality.
Comfort: when you pick up the headphones and feel the soft leather of the ear pieces, you are expecting an extremely comfy fit. Unfortunately, after long periods of use, this initial impression turns out to be somewhat misplaced. After an hour or so – they do begin to feel slightly awkward and begin to make your ears ache. However, anything under and hour, you should be able to enjoy your listening comfortably.
Sound: Overall clarity is slightly better than average. I tested the headphones on everything from Hotel California to Nikki Minaj, and all styles of music, even the more bassy ones, seemed to produce a clear and precise sound. Although, at the very highest levels, there is quite a lot of distortion. This isn’t really a problem, however, unless you are an ear abusing masochist. Plus, for the clumsier people amongst us, they come with a two year manufacturer’s warranty.
All in all: a better than average pair of stylish headphones. Although, it should be said, there is a slight whiff of style over substance, but if you are looking for some of the sexiest and most unique audio equipment around, then give them a chance. There are plenty of styles to choose from, so why not?!
