Christmas was heavy for me – and I do not mean in a Neil from the Young ones way – I mean like everyone else, I perhaps over indulged. I discovered a local brewery that really knew how to make great beer and also really did eat all the pies.

I do not like to be reminded of this, so the Stow-a-weigh scales from Salter is perfect. I hide it - only joking! - These scales are sleek and discreet, simply designed and yet laden with functions.

The clever StowAWeigh Scale analyses: Body Fat, Body Water, Body Mass Index (BMI), Muscle Mass, on its clear digital screen. With 4 users able to track their progress on the Salter StowAWeigh Analyser Scale, the whole household can embark on a healthy regime!

This means that my too competitive Fiancee lays down the scales for a joint weigh in, with the scales knowing how much both of us weighed the last time. This kind of healthy competition is great fun in reality and is also keeping us in check.

Salter have really delivered with these Scales. They are all singing and dancing with multi function, but are of a size perfect for sensible people not too obsessed with their weight.

Sorry, forgot the price – and this should have gone right at the top of the review - £34.99 available from Argos and Tesco. Amazing stuff….

Simplicity is a beautiful thing, not to be under estimated, but enjoyed.

If only everything in the world was as simple as Flip, the pocket video camera.

Flip uses built in software to install onto your pc, it has a flip out arm with USB connection. Connect flip up and it does the rest for you. I had my first videos on facebook in a matter of minutes, 3 minutes from install to upload.

Flip is well designed and has been designed for quick use. There are not many functions, which compliments rather than hinders. You get a big red record button where your thumb would be. A playback (on screen) and zoom. It’s all you need.

Because of the simplicity and the instant record, you will not miss a thing. I found that the flip promoted short bursts of film, which are perfect for uploading onto your social media site.

I also found that the size added to the filmic quality. Things seem more fluid than a standard (bulky, by comparison) video camera. I filmed (and chased) my Children through a soft play / ball pond room to great effect.

This is the way forward, it is refreshing to have something that delivers but is oh so simple to use and install.

In pink, the perfect gift for valentines day. The flip Ultra retails at £129.99, the HD version at £159.99, available from all good electrical retailers (Currys, PC world, Amazon and Play all stock).

This would make the perfect present for anyone, Technophobic grandparents, gadget crazy kids or just about anyone in between.

The simple things are always the best things….conkers, kiss chase, baked beans on toast. Add flip to the list.

Those wonderful people at Demijohn have really produced the goods for valentines.

Who could resist this truly awesome shaped bottle of Raspberry Vodka? Priced at £20.60 for 500ml and made from Scottish raspberries and Scottish Vodka, this is stunning added to Champagne or just over ice. I cannot work out what I prefer - the heart shaped bottle, or the contents!

Talking about great looking bottles….The olive oil and vinegar Ying-Yang combo is irresistable. 2 200ml bottles merge to form a complete gift for any food lover. El Campico extra virgin Olive oil from Aragon, Spain and Bramble vinegar from Comrie, Pershshire provide a centrepiece for any kitchen or dining room table. Great value for money at £14.20.

Both can be purchased at Demijohn site as well as their stores in Edinburgh, Glasgow and York - go seek out their unique, great tasting and gorgeously packaged range, Demijohn do not do disappointment.

Back in 1967, Merc Clothing joined the sixties revolution in thriving Carnaby street in London. Mercs original success was being bang on trend, with razor sharp cuts and immaculate detailing, with an emphasis on a polished finish. Not a lot has changed for Merc.

With Valentines in mind, check out a few of their items from the range below.

The Jenkins reversible Harrington jacket (£75) is iconic, it’s look instantly familiar. Latest rockers to be seen sporting this jacket include Franz Ferdinand and Kasabian. The mod classic boasts quality inner tailoring with a ribbed cuff and hem along with improved weatherproof fabrics to see him through to summer.

The Card Polo (£35) is the real deal. Cut beautifully, this will look good on just about anyone! A good choice of colours makes this a sound Valentines gift that will be worn leading up to and throughout summer. This retains its shape and this is down to good quality tailoring.

And if it’s good enough for Beckham….How about this stylish and very cool Cravat? (£25). 16th century neck wear never looked so good!

Everybody is aware of Dove’s range of skincare, and the advertising “campaign for real beauty” featuring real women. Now it’s the real mans turn….

Being a proper “real man” (!) I was qualified enough to test the new range of Dove Men+Care range, and I am glad I did. The micro moisture technology employed in the body and face washes left my skin feeling soft and full of moisture. The dirt was lifted away and I wasn’t left feeling dry as can happen with other men’s shower gels.

The anti perspirant deoderant’s are the same and do not savage your under arms like others.

The key to this range is the 1/4 moisturising cream and the micro moisture technology. These products offer maximum performance but also deliver a kindness to skin with no compromises.

When word gets around, these will become the preferred choice - available from Chemists and supermarkets now!
