This Montre Dewitt, Academia Toubillon Force Constante wrist watch (what a mouth full) caught my eye recently. Sleek, understated and quality personified are adjectives that spring to mind…

Dewitt say:

“The exclusive DeWitt calibre DW8003 mechanical movement with a constant force device designed to transmit to the Tourbillon impulses with identical energy, to exert optimum force control whatever the degree of winding. “Academia” include white gold case and hand turned gold dial.”

The feted watchmaker Richard Mille have produced a quite extraordinary contraption with the Planetarium Telurium.

The precision engineering of this device has produced a clock, planetarium and a perpetual calendar - all of which took a skilled watchmaker eight years to build. The Planetarium Telurium is crafted from a mixture of precious metals which include gold, silver, tungsten, brass, titanium and steel - which give it a staggering price tag of £500,000 ($1,000,000).

The interesting part of this device has to be the depiction of planetary movements through the solar system. The clockwork mechanism is set in motion via an elegant wind up lever.

Although, this is a very unique and elegant piece of kit - you have to ask whether it’s worth the hefty price tag?
