An in depth critique on famed designer Noelle Adam
Summer is now with us and the weather conditions are excellent. So it is time for us all to unpack our summer clothes from the dusty suitcase and start to enjoy this season in style. However, if your wardrobe is looking a little dated (a bit like my own!), why not go out and splash out on something to give you that feel good factor.
The one timeless piece that should be a most definite piece in any girl’s wardrobe is the classic Maxi Dress. These are without a doubt, the key item that you can wear to any occasion over the summer holidays. Be it to the beach, on holidays, a night out in town or even to a wedding. With the vast amount of Maxi Dresses to choose from these days, you are sure to find the perfect one for you.
I therefore give you Noelle Adam. She is a brand-new award-winning designer that has been accredited with winning “Best Emerging Talent” from Dubai Fashion Week 2009. Noelle is producing some amazing Maxi Dresses. Her designs are stunningly bohemian, and comprise of tribal, safari and butterfly-print as well as block colours and nudes. The entire Spring / Summer 2010 Collection offers limited edition quality designs at high-street prices.

I absolutely love Noelle. Having a few items of her jewellery myself (which are just as luscious), I must admit, she is my new favourite designer. So to have the opportunity to interview her really delighted me. I myself am unsure which maxi Dress suits me best, so based my questions around this. They are as follows:-
-Who is your inspiration?
“For my Maxi’s I am not inspired by a particular person. If I would be then, I think, I would mostly be inspired by myself because I wear all my Maxi’s myself.”
My inspiration for a few of my Maxi’s comes for example from:
- A smart casual lunch with the girls (my Double Dutch Maxi dress)
- Cruising in a convertible car (my Halter Maxi Dress)
- A sunny field of flowers (my Classic Maxi Dress)
- My Daughter’s Children’s Books (my Beads Queen Maxi Dress)
- The Victorian Age (my Majestic Maxi Dress)
- My beautiful garden with lots of flowers and butterflies (my FlowerBomb Maxi Dress)
- Who best suits the maxi dress?
“Maxi’s are for all women who want to feel feminine, comfortable and fashionable. Any age, any occasion, anytime, anywhere.
The perfect length of the maxi dress should be ankle or just above ankle length, approximately 1cm from the floor. So, to achieve the desired height, the perfect accompaniment would be a pair of high-heeled wedges, which can be easily accessorised with chunky wooden jewellery. If you have a curvier shape, flat sandals often look better for a more casual look, and choosing block colours can be more slimming.
My Cream Majestic Maxi Dress could work for weddings with a contrasting statement necklace, while the Khaki Flower Bomb is perfect for festivals with leather cowboy boots, belt and waistcoat.”

- Should a short, curvy woman wear the maxi dress?
“Maxi’s are also for curvier woman because they give them a slimming silhouette. Especially the cotton ones in a mono colour and with a very soft A-Line shape are perfect for heavier women. You do not need to be tall to wear a maxi. It is the other way around because of wearing a long dress, it gives you length.”
- What is the best accessory for the maxi dress?
“Good quality flat leather sandals with a nice leather bag to match.”
- Is there a particular maxi dress that makes a woman appear ‘slimmer’?
“The problem with lots of Maxi’s out there is that they are too wide and too lose. The perfect slimming Maxi is only slightly loose fitted around the body under the bust and just slightly A-Line further down.
My Black Beads Queen is the perfect slimming dress for all shapes and sizes.”

- Apart from the maxi dress, what is this summer’s must have item?
“A Statement Necklace. You can “glam up” a t-shirt or an evening dress with a big bold statement necklace. A great investment and they shall be fashionable for a long time to come.
My Beige Flowers Necklace is the perfect accompaniment for a t-shirt or evening dress, and sure to make you stand out from the crowd.”
