For those who have been to a Build-a-Bear workshop, you will agree with me that it is the most enjoyable, exciting thing you can do with your child.  For those who have not been there, I have to ask you ‘Why Not?’  I completely urge you to visit a store and explore it for yourselves.

As a family, my Fiancé, two boys and myself went to the Build-A-Bear Workshop.  We were greeted at the door by an enthusiastic assistant and manager Glen, whom then introduced us to Roisin and Alana, who really got us all excited about the experience ahead of us.  If all the staff at Build-A-Bear Workshops are like these assistants, then you will definitely get in the spirit within seconds!

What soon became apparent was a genuine care for the child in question. This is totally for the children, with the emphasis being on giving the little ones experiences (and bears!) that they will not forget. All the staff were extra friendly and completely in tune with the kids. It was refreshing to see this kind of attitude as opposed to everything being about profit.

First thing to do is to choose your bear.  There is a mass of teddies or animals to pick and choose, a task and a half for any child.  Thank goodness, my boys made their minds up in no time at all, which was a surprise!  They then get to choose what noise their bear should have, and then give their bear a name.  My eldest chose a cute little dog, gave him a bark and called him Ria, and, my youngest picked an army style teddy bear, gave him a lullaby and called him Yoda; bless them.  After that the children help to stuff their bear.  This really gets the child involved as they are the ones who put their foot on the pedal to start the stuffing machine, they loved it!

The sweetest part of the experience happens next.  You get to give your bear a heart.  The girls in the store were just fantastic explaining this to the kids.  Choosing either a plain or chequered heart, the boys get to insert it into their bear to bring it to life; they were just astonished at this stage.  The look on their little faces was priceless, my fiancé and me couldn’t stop smiling.  This is followed by the child fluffing the bear, to get rid of stray hairs!

Now, it was proper decision time; what outfit to dress them in!  The choice of clothes and accessories is amazing.  From nightwear to suits, and football kits to Disney costumes, the choice can be difficult for little kids.  But, to much joy for us, the boys chose theirs quite quickly.  Being a star wars fan, my youngest decided on a Jedi knight outfit for yoda (goes without saying really!), and my eldest decided on a doggy jacket for his Ria. Both got to finish their outfits off with a pair of shoes, and of course a lead for the dog.  Fantastic.

Next on route was to give your bear a birth certificate.  This also is a very sweet aspect of the workshop.  The kids get to help type and construct the certificate, naming the child as the owner.  Then followed by an oath taken by the children, with hands on hearts and all, I love it all.

I think this is the ultimate gift experience for children. Grandparents! This has to be on your “To Do” list. The Build-A-Bear Factory will give you a day with your loved ones that you will all treasure and remember forever.  Look below at my wonderful boys with the girls at Build-A-Bear workshop, they were so happy.
