Play and Freeze Ice Cream Maker Gift

I love ice cream but the thought of trying to make the stuff doesn’t really appeal as usually I just like to sit down in front of a film and devour a tub with an immediacy that ice cream makers can never replicate.
However, I was genuinely quite impressed with the Play and Freeze ice cream maker which enables you to make some pretty tasty concoctions simply by kicking the football shaped device around your garden. It’s made of pretty stern stuff so don’t think it’s going to break.
Here’s how it works. The raw ingredients need to be thoroughly mixed together and chilled to at least -10 centigrade. Add rock salt or plain table salt to the ice in the outer chamber which interestingly lowers it’s melting point. Without the salt the mixture wouldn’t cool down past -4 centigrade and you’d end up with a semi sludge like consistency. Flavouring can be added to your ingredients and really the sky is the limit here. So you could be boring and go for vanilla pods or chocolate or why not go for berries and biscuits. I have to admit the results taste fantastic and usually don’t take much longer than 20 minutes. Still a bit too long to wait for me, but not bad.
Nice idea for a cheap and cheerful birthday or Christmas gift. Retails for around £15 ($29).
