Representing the newest evolution in vibration training from Power Plate International, the leading manufacturer of Acceleration Training products, the PowerBike heralds a unique way to train indoors.  It sounds fantastic, and after reading this, you will most definitely want to try it out!

The PowerBike patent-pending pedal and crank system delivers vibrations through the pedals as you cycle. The vibrations provide an additional stimulus for a more challenging workout, but they also activate the stretch reflex in the muscles, so you are better able to cope with the increased intensity.  Using your own pedal power to generate vibrations, the PowerBike requires no electrical supply. There is also the option to switch off the vibration function, giving you two fitness bikes in one.  How brilliant is that?

Research on the PowerBike from the University of Greenwich’s Centre for Sports Science and Human Performance shows the addition of vibration during cycling causes a significant increase in activity for the primary cycling muscles.  Preliminary data shows an increase of 167% in muscle activity for the quadriceps, 144% for the hamstrings, and 138% for the glutes, when pedalling at 90PRM and 30Hz vibration, when compared to muscle activity at the same RPM with no vibration.

Now, with the UK launch of the PowerBike other pro cyclists and amateur enthusiasts alike can also enjoy all the benefits of this remarkable training tool, which offers sport-specific training combined with the acknowledged benefits of vibration technology.

Rebecca Romero, Olympic champion, is the first UK professional cyclist to train with the Power Plate PowerBike and she is seeing the benefits.

“The PowerBike takes my training to the next level. The ability to switch the vibration on and off means I can replicate high intensity race conditions far more easily. Recovery is also faster, because of the instant increase in circulation and lactic acid drainage due to the vibration technology. It has real potential to help me gain the advantage when competing,” says Rebecca.

The Power Plate PowerBike retails from £2,995 and will be available from John Lewis, Harrods, Selfridges, The Gym Company (gymcompany.co.uk) and Power Plate (http://www.powerplate.com/uk).
