I’m tempted to just write awesome and be done with it. It’s all you need to know about TVonics Freeview+ HD recorder, the DTR-Z500HD.

I better give you a bit more though!

There’s no getting away from it, times are hard at present. If you are looking to cut back, the first thing that needs to go is costly monthly satellite or cable subscriptions.

Can’t think you can live without your generic TV recording unit? Think again, I have done it and have not looked back.

Packed with some really nifty features and looking compact and sleek, this is a welcome addition to my living room, without the continuous monthly bills.

Live TV can be paused, you can rewind and you can record. Rather nicely, you can record two channels at once…no more remote control battles! It can do all the things you love about your current TV recorder, but it doesn’t send you a monthly bill.

Retailing at £224.99, it will pay for itself if you are currently a Sky / Virgin subscriber.

Forgetting the very true saying ‘you get what you pay for’, I flirted with a cheaper alternative from another company. This box gave me nothing but issues, with poor reception constantly causing the programs to be lost. When the cheap box actually had reception, it was sometimes so jumpy, the channel became unwatchable.

In frustration, I nearly went back to Sky.

I am so glad I tried the TVonics DTR-Z500HD. It has crisp, clear HD reception and hasn’t skipped a beat.

How can TVonics get it right, when other manufacturers get it so wrong?

TVonics have cannily introduced free and easy to install software upgrades, which makes this box roll with the times.

It comes with HDMI switch technology so that two HDMI devices including games consoles or Blu-Ray players can be connected to the TV with fewer untidy cables, another little moan now taken away!

Simply put, you will be hard pushed to find a better performing, better looking Freeview HD box.
