It’s that time of year when you may be looking to indulge a loved one and what better way than through their tummy! We were invited by BuyAGift.co.uk to try out one of their many gift experiences and we had a terrific time.
Our experience was a champagne afternoon tea for two at the beautiful Tylney Hall, Hampshire. Although, it should be said that Buy A Gift have afternoon teas of all costs and in all locations up and down the country.
One of the best parts of any afternoon tea is the fact you usually find yourself in a beautiful building and in luxurious surroundings. Four-star Tylney Hall certainly ticked these boxes for us and we absolutely loved this Grade II listed manor house style hotel. Set in gorgeous grounds, Tylney’s gardens are a wonderful treat for the eyes. However, it was the prospect of edible treats inside, which really excited us!
Afternoon tea was hosted in the Italian Lounge, an elegant and fabulous ornate space. There was a feeling of warmth and opulence as we took our seats. After selecting early grey and spearmint tea from the hotel’s great selection, we were presented with a gorgeous glass of Canard Duchêne Champagne. A really indulgent and fun start to proceedings!
Take a look at our afternoon tea in all its glory
Sandwiches were light, fluffy and packed full of fresh flavours. A particular favourite for me being the cucumber sandwiches (it’s not something I have usually), red onion chutney sandwiches and smoked salmon sandwiches – they all really hit the spot. The gorgeous raspberry macaroons you can see in the picture were filled with a tasty jam and tasted wonderful.
When we went to sample the scones there were sadly stone cold; even though on the Tylney Hall website they state that these will be served warm. A cold scone just doesn’t have the same impact for us and this was a shame.
We also went to try the mini crème brûlée only to disappointingly find it had completely curdled and was essentially a sweet scrambled egg. This was not what we expected. A month before we visited for afternoon tea we had also confirmed that my partner doesn’t take butter on her sandwiches. Unfortunately, on the day, she was presented with buttery sandwiches and this left question marks over the level of detail Tylney Hall put into their afternoon tea services.
We did enjoy our Tylney Hall experience and on the whole there were loads of fun, positive and exciting things to say. However, a couple of elements let this experience down for us. Since our afternoon tea we have checked online to see how others have faired and this seems to have been a one off.
