Christmas Wine & Fizz Guide 2017

Christmas is a time to drink and be merry! To help you on your way, we have assembled a range of delectable drinks to get you in the festive spirit. We have some must try English sparkling wine from Hattingley Valley and much more.

Hattingley Valley Sparkling Wine – 2011 Blanc De Blancs

English sparkling wine, for us, is just as good as other sparkling wines. Hattingley Valley Sparkling Wine is a superb example of an English sparkling wine with elegance, refinement and class. In fact, in 2017, they won gold at the Champagne and Sparkling Wine championships for their Blanc de Blancs. But that’s not all, Hattingley Valley is also the sparkling wine of choice for Aqua’s afternoon teas at The Shard.

The 2011 vintage is created from the very best parcels of Chardonnay and is an emphatic example of how beautiful English sparkling wine can be.  This particular vintage was helped by record breaking temperatures in October (harvest season), which leant the fruit a stunning ripeness.  Vibrant, with a perfectly balanced sugar to acidity ratio, you can see why it has been lavished with awards. We also loved the hint of oak too, giving this sparkling wine a really unique twist.

Andrew Peace Chardonnay & Shiraz (£5.29 from the Co-op)

Looking for an affordable and yet delicious red or white this Christmas? If so, Peace wines are a strong contender with a low cost price tag. Peace wines have been making wine for three generations over in Australia.

The Shiraz is a full bodied red blended from Shiraz and a dash of Tempranillo. It’s super smooth and drinkable, plus we loved the ripe black fruit flavours and touch of cherry.

For something a little more refreshing, this rich white has some undertones of tropical fruits and citrus for a burst of flavour. For under £5.50 these are great little wines. They can be found in Co-op for £5.29. Read more about the Chardonnay and the Shiraz.

Shorn Sparkling Pino Grigio (£8.75)

Shorn Sparkling Pino Grigio originates from Marlborough, New Zealand, a world renowned hub of great wines. This sparkling offering from Shorn shows super soft bubbles and a light Cremant mousse.
