As the year goes by and the sun and warmth retreat, the summery drinks will soon go with them. Gone will be the fruity cocktails, those ice cold mojitos and G&Ts; as the real heart-warmers loom on the horizon. Now comes the time for the brandies and ports, the meaty red wines and soothing cognacs, but most of all comes the time for perhaps the king of the spirits, the mighty Scotch whisky.
Traditionally handcrafted at the Ardmore distillery in Kennethmont, Aberdeenshire; The Ardmore Legacy certainly looks the part with it’s beautifully presented bottle packaged in a cylindrical case, adorned with a copper foil eagle which acknowledges their rare avian neighbours in the Speyside area, and a map of the surroundings of the home of this Scottish classic. Described as “light, sweet and uplifting” the lightly peated single malt comes in at the minimum 40% alcoholic volume required to be a whisky, and has balanced sweet and smokey tastes along with a lovely vanilla flavour which soothes the palate like soft ice cream. It has all the makings of a lovely tipple by a warm fire on a chilly winters eve.
The Legacy is the successor to Ardmore’s Traditional Cask line. While a bit lighter in terms of alcoholic content it does not disappoint in terms of flavour and at £29.99 (Tesco and Morrisons) is very reasonably priced given the quality of the liquor, making it an excellent gift for a casual whisky sipper or someone looking to really get in to tasting.
