MEDUSA 5.1 True Surround Headset from Speedlink Reviewed

It may be a simple thing to say, but sound is one of the key elements of any gaming experience. Crucial climactic moments, intense atmospheric scenes and a sense of being truly immersed are usually all down to the power of sound. If you are a gamer, you are probably used to the importance of this medium in conveying a story and propelling gameplay forward. If so, then you may want to sit up and listen to what we have to say about the Medusa 5.1 True Surround Headset. Designed for gaming, this USB headset comes with an integrated sound card and other gizmos to ensure the best immersive experience.

The headset itself has a super cool look and a well-built feel. Clean cut edges, a lightweight frame and en ergonomic fit make for a comfortable and stylish set of headphones. Thanks to the headphones weighing in at only 320 grams and the softly cushioned ear pads, they are perfect for the more length gaming session too. Plus, the headphones have a 3 metre long cable and 3 axis of movement in the cup, to ensure the best flexibility when using them.

One area of the product, which ensures the Medusa’s are a cut above the rest, is their very own integrated sound card and desktop remote. The desktop remote comes with a practical non-stick base and easy to use functions. The result of this tech is that you can adjust each audio channel to craft your listening experience for you. Additionally, the desktop remote allows you to control the headphones noise-reducing microphone. All in all, the remote is a useful addition and give you control over the headphones without going into programmes or disrupting your on screen experience. Remember, you will need to download the correct drives from the Speedlink website for your headphones to work.

The 5.1 surround sound is generated by 8 nifty drivers (4 in each ear), which generates a powerful and detailed audio experience. The trebles are on point and the bass is strong enough to give a real depth to the sound. The result is a captivating and enthralling experience. We tried the headphones across various games and even films, just to see how the ‘true surround’ sound performed. In each case, the headphones created a strong sense of space and depth, therefore allowing for noises to be heard with a sense of distance. For example, shots fired in the distance, would actually be heard in the distance and with a sense of realistic clarity. In short, does the ‘true surround’ label seem appropriate? Yes, we certainly thought so.
